Een algoritme met real-world impact; ARRIVAL
Kwam op digg.com een nieuw algoritme genaamd ARRIVAL tegen. Doel van dit algoritme is om het gebruik van de beschikbare rails te optimalizeren door treinen slimmer te schedulen. Interessant om te zien hoe dit in enkele opzichten dezelfde issues heeft als het huidige internet qua routering en natuurlijk erg gaaf om een algoritmen te bouwen wat zo’n meetbare real-world impact heeft;

In Berlin’s U-Bahn underground network, where the ARRIVAL algorithms are being used commercially, they have resulted in the average waiting time between trains being reduced from four minutes to two minutes, while trials at Padua and Genoa train stations in Italy showed that the technology resulted in an average 25 percent reduction in delays.
